Solved: Fatal error: Class ‘WP Privacy Policy Content’ not found in

Today I updated WordPress for a client and got greeted with a nice error on the admin side of the site:

Fatal error: Class ‘WP Privacy Policy Content’ not found in

To be honest, it looked like something had been broken with the WordPress update process in the menu.php of the admin side of the site.

I had seen similar behaviour before during a WordPress update where some parts of the site refuse to work right after the update and seem to break down and then you rush to google the error.

Solution?

Wait for a minute or two. Let the update script run till the end and insert files where necessary. Don’t rush to investigate the matter opening up files (and locking them down maybe to even interrupt the update process).

After 1 minute of appearing the error disappeared. Just keep refreshing your site.

Not far after the update WordPress let me know that there are new tools for privacy available.

wordpress privacy tools

Under Settings -> Privacy you will find the item that the error Fatal error: Class ‘WP Privacy Policy Content’ not found may have been referring to.

Really appreciate WordPress’s efforts to comply with GDPR!

Here is a nice longer official post about the WordPress’s built in GDPR tool in 4.9.6:
