Cookies
To improve your experience on our site, we may use ‘cookies’. Cookies are an industry standard and most major web sites use them. A cookie is a small text file that our site may place on your computer as a tool to remember your preferences. You may refuse the use of cookies by selecting the appropriate settings on your browser, however please note that if you do this you may not be able to use the full functionality of this website.
Cookies reside in your internet browser to help remember your preferences and previous activity. You can find more information about cookies at www.allaboutcookies.org and www.youronlinechoices.eu.
Cookies installed can be deleted in browsers. If you reject cookies, you may still use our website, but your ability to use some features or areas of our website may be limited.
Types of cookies we use:
WordPress cookies are used for log-in functionality. In order to log in to this site, you must have cookies enabled in your browser (applies only to the site administrator and to people who are trying to hack in to this site – they must accept cookies from this site to log in). This site has WordPress comments turned off and provides no log-in option for regular users so WordPress cookie use is minimalized.
We also may use cookies to automatically analyze and determine whether our site users are humans or not. This is done only for automatic analytical purposes and no personal data is being collected or stored.
This site also uses cookies that are used by third party service providers (see below embedded content section).
Embedded content from other websites & third party cookies
Articles on this site may include embedded content (e.g. videos, images, articles, etc.). Embedded content from other websites behaves in the exact same way as if the visitor has visited the other website.
These websites may collect data about you, use cookies, embed additional third-party tracking, and monitor your interaction with that embedded content, including tracing your interaction with the embedded content if you have an account and are logged in to that website.
Google Analytics by Google, Inc.
We use Google Analytics as a visitor analysis tool. In Google Analytics tracking code the IP address anonymization setting has been enabled so Google Analytics will not store your full IP address from our site.
Cookies allow web analytics services to recognise your browser or device and, for example, identify whether you have visited our website before, what you have previously viewed or clicked on, and how you found us. The information is anonymous and only used for statistical purposes, and it helps us to analyse patterns of user activity and to develop a better user experience.
Google Analytics employs cookies that are stored to your computer in order to facilitate an analysis of your use of the site. The information generated by these cookies, such as time, place and frequency of your visits to our site, including your IP address, is transmitted to Google’s location in the US and stored there.
In using Google Analytics our website employs the extension “anonymizeIp”. In doing so, Google abbreviates and thereby anonymizes your IP address before transferring it from EU/EEA member states. Google uses this information to analyze your use of our site, to compile reports for us on internet activity and to provide other services relating to our website.
Google may also transfer this information to third parties where required to do so by law or where such third parties process this data on Google’s behalf. Google states that it will in never associate your IP address with other data held by Google. You can prevent cookies from being installed by adjusting the settings on your browser software accordingly as noted elsewhere in this Privacy Policy. You should be aware, however, that by doing so you may not be able to make full use of all the functions of our website.
Google Analytics also offers a deactivation add-on for most current browsers that provides you with more control over what data Google can collect on websites you access. The add-on tells the JavaScript (ga.js) used by Google Analytics not to transmit any information about website visits to Google Analytics. However, the browser deactivation add-on offered by Google Analytics does not prevent information from being transmitted to us or to other web analysis services we may engage.
Google Analytics also uses electronic images known as web beacons (sometimes called single pixel gifs) and are used along with cookies to compile aggregated statistics to analyze how our site is used.
You can find additional information on how to install the browser add-on referenced above at the following link: https://tools.google.com/dlpage/gaoptout?hl=en.
For the cases in which personal data is transferred to the US, Google has self-certified pursuant to the EU-US Privacy Shield (https://www.privacyshield.gov/EU-US-Framework).

Google AdSense by Google, Inc.
We support our site by serving Google AdSense ads, but they are being served to you non-personalized. This might mean a little less interesting selection of ads for you, but on the other hand you get to see ads you otherwise would never see.
AdSense sends a cookie to the user’s browser after any impression, click, or other activity that results in a call to our servers. If the browser accepts the cookie, the cookie is stored on the browser.
Most commonly, AdSense sends a cookie to the browser when a user visits a page that shows Google ads and Google ads are embedded on most articles of this site.

Who we share your data with
We share your data that you provided to us via commenting through the integrated Disqus commenting system – your commenting name, IP, e-mail address and website – only when lawfully enforced to do so. Otherwise we never share or sell your personal data we have collected.
How long we retain your data
If you leave a comment, the comment and its metadata are retained indefinitely. This is so we can recognize and approve any follow-up comments automatically instead of holding them in a moderation queue.
For users that register on our website (if any), we also store the personal information they provide in their user profile. All users can see, edit, or delete their personal information at any time (except they cannot change their username). Website administrators can also see and edit that information.
What rights you have over your data
If you have an account on this site, or have left comments, you can request to receive an exported file of the personal data we hold about you, including any data you have provided to us. You can also request that we erase any personal data we hold about you. This does not include any data we are obliged to keep for administrative, legal, or security purposes or data that has been inserted by you to third party services on our website (Facebook likes, shares, Disqus comments, etc) that we do not possess or have control over.
Where we send your data
Visitor comments may be checked through an automated spam and malware detection service.

What automated decision making and/or profiling we do with user data

We may automatically choose to not serve you the site if our automated traffic analyzation process decides you are not a human or an approved web bot/spider.
