Solved: SocButtons inserts backlink to the developer

SocButtons is a cool social share extension for Joomla articles. It can display all the main buttons for article sharing, including Twitter tweet, Facebook like, LinkedIn share, VKontakte share and more.

On the Joomla Extensions site there is a editor’s note on SocButtons’ page that the plugin inserts a backlink to the developer’s site (nauca.com.ua).

How can you find the code doing that in SocButtons?

Joomla Extensions - Editor's note, adds a backlink to developer's site

1. Open \plugins\content\socbuttons\socbuttons.php
2. Around lines 200-202 find

$html .= ‘<style>.soc_no a{color:#d6d6d6; font-size:8px;} .soc_yes a{color:#d6d6d6; font-size:8px;display:none;}</style>’;

$html .= ‘<div class=”‘.$soc_copr.'”><a href=”http://nauca.com.ua/plugins/socbuttons-v14/” title=”SocButtons v1.4″ target=”_blank”>SocButtons v1.4</a></div>’;

3. If you feel uncomfortable keeping this link you can comment it out adding double slash before each line like this

//$html .= ‘<style>.soc_no a{color:#d6d6d6; font-size:8px;} .soc_yes a{color:#d6d6d6; font-size:8px;display:none;}</style>’;

//$html .= ‘<div class=”‘.$soc_copr.'”><a href=”http://nauca.com.ua/plugins/socbuttons-v14/” title=”SocButtons v1.4″ target=”_blank”>SocButtons v1.4</a></div>’;

It’s up to you whether you keep the backlink or not. I wish it wasn’t there if I chose to not display credits to the author via the SocButtons control panel in administrator’s area. A small non-removable text/logo to the publicly visible plugin’s area would have worked much better for SocButtons. I don’t mind giving credit provided the developer doesn’t do any tricks.
